Alice Kaplan, the John Musser Chair of French at Yale University, is the author of many books about modern French culture and history, including Dreaming in French, The Interpreter, The Collaborator (also translated into Greek), and French Lessons. She is a chevalier in the French Legion of Honor and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.  She lives in Guilford, Connecticut and made frequently trips to Paris, Algiers, and Oran while working on Looking for The Stranger.
