Achilleas Fotakis was born in Larissa. He graduated from the Law School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Pedagogy Department of ASPAITE. He then received his Master in Law from Birkbeck, University of London, and his PhD from the Department of History and Archeology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, where he is currently a postdoctoral researcher. He is also a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Social Anthropology and History of the Aegean University. His research interests revolve around the history of police, sexual crimes, anti-Semitism and Armenian history, issues which he has discussed in conferences, books and articles.
