Robert McCabe was born in Chicago in 1934. He started taking photographs in 1939 when his father, who published a tabloid newspaper, gave him a camera. He first photographed Greece in 1954, and continues to this day. He has published 12 books, covering Antarctica, Central Park, Havana, China, and Greece.
