He was born in 1945 in Thessaloniki, he studied civil engineering at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and did his postgraduate studies in England. He worked as an engineer for 40 years in various countries. In 2001 he returned to Thessaloniki after almost 35 years of “self-exile”. In 1974, at the Camden Town flea market in London, he bought the first three postcards relating to the fire of Thessaloniki in 1917 and thus realized the incredible scope of the destruction. This was the impetus for his collection. He has been collecting material regarding Thessaloniki for almost 40 years about the historic period between 1800-1950. The collection consists of anything based on paper: postcards, photographs, engravings, books, magazines, maps, stocks, advertising materials, letterheads, and programmes from cinemas, theaters and concerts, etc.; a total of approximately 90,000 documents. Finding and collecting historical material led him to write thirteen books on topics regarding the history and topography of the city. In 2017, he donated his collection to the Central Library of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, in order to continue the excellent work that has already happening in recording, scanning and identifying.
