David Hockney is perhaps one of the world’s most acclaimed and popular artists of our time. He makes pictures in almost every medium and likes to look carefully at the work of other artists. His book Secret Knowledge explains some of his ideas about how artists throughout history have created their pictures.

Martin Gayford is art critic and author. He has had many conversations with David Hockney over the years about art, some of which he has written down in books including A Bigger Message. 

Rose Blake is an illustrator who also makes pictures. She creates illustrations for books, magazines, newspapers and art galleries. When she was eleven, she and her parents went on holiday to LA and visited David Hockney at his house. Since then she has been one of his biggest fans.
