  • Product Description

This book offers a visual-poetic journey, with images-compositions that create small ‘living realities’, which are bisected-intersected in time, acquiring a temporality that is essentially a-temporality, aesthetic and narrative. Narrative because every little home creates a type of narration that moves around the particular axis each time, whether this be people or landscapes.

Protagonists in Alcalay’s photographic oeuvre are the ‘homes’ that abandon their hearth, the interior of the artist’s studio, to become homeless vagrants drifting in the urban web, thus setting up a narrative that is interwoven around places (the cemetery, the church, the ruins) and persons (the migrant, the drug addict, the children) they meet in the course of their wanderings.

Alcalay locates the inside of the house in the outside of the city, and transforms the familiarity of the home-refuge into an unfamiliar desire for dispersion. She places these homes in a continual transition from the urban centre to the natural landscape, from the tranquility of the countryside and the sea to the upheaval of the modern Athenian streets, inventing an opportunity for exploration, contact and communication. Thus, the home becomes a metaphor for the relationship between the object-art work and the space surrounding it, and the close and constant interaction within the social context.
