This edition is a product of thorough research and delving into the archives of the Society of the Friends of the People. It is our Society’s contribution to the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the beginning of Greek national uprising. Twenty-five documents of the revolutionary years were selected for this purpose, most of them unpublished. The criterion of choice was the importance of the events but also of their protagonists.
Specifically, significant personalities emerge, such as Alexandros Ypsilantis, Papaflessas, Theodoros Kolokotronis, Petrobey Mavromichalis, Dionysios bishop of Athens, Panoutsos Notaras, Gregorios bishop of Methoni, Alexandros Mavrokordatos, Athanassios Gregoriadis, Iossif Kiappe, Sir Richard Church, Ioannis Kapodistrias etc.
The documents are presented in original, transcribed and accompanied by a relevant historical commentary.
