Charalambos Bakirtzis is Ephor Emeritus of Antiquities. From 1964 he served in the Thessaloniki Archaeological Museum, the Ephorates of Byzantine Antiquities of Central and West Macedonia, and East Macedonia and Thrace. As Ephor of Byzantine Antiquities of Thessaloniki he completed the project of restoring the monuments and conserving the mosaics, which had commenced after the 1978 earthquakes. Assistant and Associate Professor at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1988-1998), Director of the Anastasios G. Leventis Foundation (2011-). Director of the Greek Archaeological Mission at Agios Georgios Pegeia in Cyprus, founder and director of the Centre of Contemporary Archaeology and member of the Thessaloniki Writers Society.

Eftychia Kourkoutidou-Nikolaidou is Ephor Emerita of Antiquities. From 1965 she served in the Ephorates of Byzantine Antiquities of Thessaly, East Macedonia and Thrace, and Central and West Macedonia. During her service in the Ephorate of Byzantine Antiquities of Thessaloniki she was systematically involved with restoring the Byzantine monuments and conserving the mosaics after the 1978 earthquakes. After the founding of the Museum of Byzantine Culture she was appointed director and undertook the museological study and the organization of its exhibitions. Concurrently, she became director of the European Centre for Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Monuments.

Chrysanthi Mavropoulou-Tsioumi began her career in the Archaeological Service in 1965, with a five-year break from 1969 to 1975, during which she was a research fellow at the Patriarchal Foundation of Patristic Studies and for two years studied in Germany as scholarship-holder of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. In 1975 she returned to the Archaeological Service and in 1981, when responsibility for restoring the monuments of Thessaloniki after the 1978 earthquakes passed exclusively to the Ephorate of Byzantine Antiquities, she became dir­ector of the Ephorate and continued the restoration project. Her scholarly interests encompass almost all genres of Byzantine art, but particularly Byzantine painting. In 1986 she was elected Professor at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
