Product Description
TRANSLATED BY ATHINA CACOURI
In 1915, whilst planning an attack at the Straits and Gallipoli, the English Government sent to Greece the highly competent and experienced officer, Thomas Andrew Alexander Montgomery-Cuninghame, as Military Attaché, with the mission “to help the British Minister bring Greece into the war on our side.” This is his account of the astonishing situation he found in Athens, his discussions with the Greek General Staff and the King, the difficulties to overcome, and how eventually in May 1915, a few days before the landing in Gallipoli was launched, Greece offered to enter the war, with all its army and navy. To this offer no reply was ever given! Why did the Entente disregard in such a brutal way the offer of a whole army has never been explained. The author maintains that the war could have been won two years earlier if Greece, which was the key to the deadlock, had been treated differently.
