The Little Monk of Mιstras, originally published in the journal Children’s Life (1927–1931), is the story of a young orphan boy whose warrior grandfather entrusts him into the care of two nuns in the Monastery of Pantanassa at Mystras. The story unfolds from the beginnings of the Greek War of Independence through to the day of the arrival of King Otto at Nafplion. On the occasion of the bicentennial of the Greek Revolution of 1821, and wishing to honor the memory of Maria Momferatos who served as President of the Lyceum Club of Greek Women (1958–1962), the Lyceum Club, jointly with Kapon Editions, are republishing the Little Monk of Mιstras, bringing it afresh to an audience of young and older readers alike, so that he can tell us again his fascinating story that is also a micrography of our History at large.
