Raphael Moissis was born in 1933 in Thessaloniki, Greece and spent his student years at Athens College and Whittingehame College, Brighton, UK. He studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Manchester, England, where he received a First Class Honour B.Sc., and then at MIT where he obtained his Master and Doctor of Science degrees. He started his carrier as Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at MIT. After his return to Greece, he divided his professional career between the private and public sector. Among his highlights in the private sector was his position as Chairman of the Board of AB VASSILOPOULOS S.A, while in the public one, his position as Chairman Executive Secretary to the National Energy Council in the Ministry of Coordination, Deputy Governor of the Hellenic Industrial Development Bank (ETBA), Governor of the Public Power Corporation (DEH), President of ATTIKO METRO S.A. and Chairman and Managing Director of the Public Gas Corporation (DEPA). His social activities include the foundation of the MIT Club of Greece, and his participation at the Board of Athens College (Secretary and Treasurer), the Center for Political Research and Training (KPEE), the Federation of Greek Industries (Member of the Board of Directors and Executive Council), the Food Bank Foundation (Treasurer and Secretary) the Organization and Administration Unit (M.O.D.) S.A., the Aspis Bank and others.
